The second Museum Volunteer Award was presented by Marie Senécal-Tremblay, President of CFFM-FCAM to Mrs. Neil B. (Joan) Ivory of Montreal, Quebec.
Joan Coll Fraser Ivory is a pioneering volunteer and outstanding philanthropist who has added critical depth, reach, and strength to the growth and development of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), over the past five decades. Her volunteer ‘career’ spans more than 55 years of service and over which she has contributed over 30,000 hours of her time! In her tenure as Director of the Volunteer Association Travel Committee she creatively used her vast network of contacts to become a groundbreaking innovator in the field of cultural exchanges across all boundaries.
As a devoted Museum volunteer, Joan Ivory also served as a Museum Library Cataloguer, Slide Library Assistant, President and Member of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Volunteer Association; Co-President and Member of the Friends of the Museum Committee, Member of the MMFA Board of Trustees, Member of the MMFA Executive Committee. She continues to be an active Member of two MMFA’s Acquisition Committees for International Art and for the Decorative Arts. She has, by acting as an indefatigable cultural ambassador, made an indelible mark in growing the Museum’s reputation and renown.
Joan Ivory has given freely, broadly and generously of her time and resources, drawing from her experience within an international network of institutions. She is a dynamic and remarkable example of individual Volunteerism at its finest!
