The Canadian Heritage Information Network Digital Heritage Symposium 2010

Making the Connection: Museums, Visitors and New Technologies

· Located at the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Colombia

· February 4th and 5th 2010

The Symposium brings together a group of key leaders in the field of digital innovation in museums from France, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada to examine the opportunities and challenges confronting heritage institutions in today’s global digital environment.

Keynotes:

· Agnès Alfandari – Department Head of multimedia, Musée du Louvre (France)

· David Anderson – Director of Learning and Interpretation, Victoria and Albert Museum (England)

· Anthony Shelton – Director, Museum of Anthropology at the University of British-Columbia (Canada)

• And also Rafael Lozano-Hemmer (Artist, CODE).

Monday, April 19  DELEGATES AND ACCOMPANYING PERSONS

  • 10:00  to 6 PM  Registration [Headquarters*]
  • 11:00 A.M.  Meet in the lobby of the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian on the Mall for a brief tour .
  • 12:30 P.M.   Lunch of Southwestern North American Indian and South American Indian delicacies in the cafeteria.
  • 2:00 P.M.  Curatorial tour of US Department of State Diplomatic Reception Rooms ( need to arrive at 2:00 for security)
  • 6:30 PM  Cocktail Reception at home of Georgetown collector (offer heavy hors d’oeuvres)

Tuesday, April 20  SCHEDULE FOR DELEGATES

  • 8:30–9:30 AM  Registration, Coffee    [Headquarters]
  • 9:30 AM  Welcome from Host and WFFM Officers at museum  auditorium or in conference room at Headquarters -
  • 9:45 AM  Panel of National Presidents  – “Where have we been?  Where are we going?”  Moderator -  John W. Barnum, WFFM Vice President for North America
  • 11 AM  Coffee break
  • 11:30 AM  Co- Presidents of Canadian Federation of Friends of Museums moderate panel
  • 1:00 PM  Lunch – speaker under consideration
  • 2:30 PM  President of  Mexican Federation of Friends of Museums  moderate panel
  • 3:30 – PM  Panel of speakers from U.S. museums
  • 7:00 PM  Reception and dinner at Anderson Room, Metropolitan Club

Tuesday, April 20  SCHEDULE FOR ACCOMPANYING PERSONS

  • 8:00 AM  White House tour (on request)
  • 10:00 AM  Visits to the National Gallery of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum, Phillips Collection and other museums on the Mall.   Guided tours will be arranged if there is sufficient interest in a particular museum.
  • 12:30 P.M.  Restaurants for lunch are available in most of Washington’s museums.
  • Afternoon museum visits will continue.
  • 3:00 PM  Guided tour of Georgetown and a visit to Dumbarton Oaks and Gardens
  • 7:00 P.M.  Reception and dinner at Metropolitan Club with delegates and other guests.
